A Return to Form: Damage is Done (The Violation of Thémis) Debuts in Kansas City

April 15, 2017

My multi-channel video Damage is Done (The Violation of Thémis) debuted at the Anderson Ranch Legacy: Mentoring Artistic Excellence exhibition in Kansas City on March 19. This exhibition was a cornerstone of the 50th conference of NCECA (National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts).

The video is one element of the installation Damage is Done (The Violation of Thémis). With this work, I explore the impact of relentless multiple loss and the futile effort to recover without the solace of community.

To quote one durable, old Queen1, “it has turned out to be an ‘Annus horribilis.’” In the past year, I have replaced a hip, had two spinal surgeries, moved my parents to a retirement community, and sold my childhood home. To quote another sturdy, old Queen2, “I’m still standing better than I ever did. Looking like a true survivor, feeling like a little kid.” I had lots of love and support along the way. To quote a third, notorious, but departed Queen3, “If I am rich it is because I have taken my wages in people.”

AND NOW, life moves on…
