Nascosto, fuoco tra le pietre - 23 marzo 2008
Hidden, Fire in Stone

Ethyl alcohol, stone, organic matter, night sky. 10 x 2 feet
Image presented as metallic c-print, 45 x 32 inches

In the dark of the new moon, as a Promethean Puck, I pour alcohol distilled from grain onto the stones of the bridge and river. The alcohol, with the fire chasing it, flows blue into fissures and ignites organic debris into a spectrum of color. The wind, breath of the river, spins the flames like an ecstatic dervish.

But my momentary constellations have no impact on the obsidian darkness of the river canyon. Under the eternal, undisputed reign of the stars above—celestial sapphires, rubies, emeralds and pin-pricks of burning gold—my gift to the night is barely a whisper.
