Passing Through Mirrors of Light

Paper, water, ice, sand, flora, reflection, stone. 30 x 20 feet
Image presented as metallic c-print, 45 x 32 inches

How easy it is to get lost or seduced by reflections. The river, like a heart, reflects all that surrounds it in a canyon of brilliant mirrors. Images move across the water in stillness and in motion. Yet, somehow the river always holds its integrity never becoming what it reflects.

With the experience of becoming lost in a magnificent multitude of ever changing images, I explore ways to separate the river from what it reflects. How is it possible to frame the limitless complexity of nature? Only with simplicity. Otherwise there is danger that we see only the frame itself.

In this dialogue, a blank sheet of paper, the absence of image, creates a frame in reverse. It illuminates the multi-dimensional aspects of reflection and it highlights the reality of nature. All in silence.
