Beneath the Earth, Beyond the Sky
I create pigment with ground brick, charcoal, herbs, flowers and mud found at the site. The river
framed by stone and sky reveal and inform where to apply color. Responding, I paint the stone. I silt
charcoal and pigment into puddles and the river current. The river transforms my painting, stretching
the images and distorting the colors, mixing them with its own.
The silt settles into a spectrum of densities or is captured in the river's currents. The charcoal captures
the achingly blue sky, pulling it into Lethe-like puddles to rest like dreams long forgotten.
New worlds, as seen from satellites, are created aquarelle in and on the river.
